[It's been a few months since Momo made a video post, but he starts off as brightly as ever, waving a red-nailed hand from where he's sitting on the couch in his cottage. He has his legs crossed on the seat, so his equally red toenails are all just as visible.]
Hey, so it's taken me a while to follow up on this, but a couple of months back I was asking around about the idea of getting together some kind of comprehensive resource on monster changes! Since I've met a lot of people who've been really blindsided by stuff, and while some of it hasn't been so bad, some of it is definitely the kind of thing that'd be super nasty to go through without any warning. So I'm asking for any monsters - or Witches who've seen a Bonded or close friend go through the changing process enough to have details - who are willing to answer a couple of questions on what kind of changes you have or know about!
[He holds up a written sheet - this particular one is written in Aefenglom's common language, in the standard alphabet rather than the runic one some books use.]
I'll leave a text copy of the answers on here so people can respond here, but I'll read them out too just in case there's people who can't read any of the three languages I know - I'll have the form in Aefenglom common, Japanese and English, but if you'd rather not read or write you can just answer here in voice or video and I can ask you the questions that way! But the questions I've got at the moment are:
What monster type are you?
What physical changes have you gone through?
What abilities or powers have you gotten from your change?
Have you had any mental or emotional changes as this type of monster?
Are there any weaknesses or allergies your monster type has?
Is there anything else about your monster type or the changing process that you think would be useful for someone changing into it to know?
I don't need paragraphs or anything, if you prefer to just dot point or list the basic stuff then that'll be helpful too! I had some people last time say they'd be interested in helping me compile the information, but it's still probably going to take a bit of time. Oh, and if you want a physical copy, you can either pick one up from me or I'll be figuring out a couple of places to leave them for easy access. And if you're a Witch answering on behalf of someone else, just let me know that in the first question.
Anyway, thanks in advance! [He makes a heart shape with both his hands.] If you have any questions or want to help out in another way or anything like that, feel free to ask. I might need some people to help me ask local monsters for types we don't have a lot of among the Mirrorbound, like arachne.
[[As Momo mentioned, there is a text form in three language options that can be filled out posted immediately after the initial video post, containing the listed questions plus a bonus one: "If you have completed your changes, how long did they take?"
If your character would prefer to answer the questions verbally, you are also welcome to handwave this if you prefer and simply post the answers they would have given in response to the form comment! Just note that they would have answered in audio/video form so I know if Momo would recognise their voice/face later.
If characters would prefer a physical copy to more easily ask someone to hit with a translation spell or otherwise, the initial locations given will be Momo's cottage and just inside the Looking-Glass House where they usually hold orientations.]]

I.. I got some letters the other week. I can't read them properly. [a small huff, and just in case he didn't get her meaning ] I'll bring them around later.
You can tell me if mandibles are right then.
no subject
Sure. I should be home for the rest of the day, it was a morning work kinda day, so any time should be fine to bring them over.
[Morning radio show kind of day specifically, which meant he'd had to get up extremely early, but he's used to that.]

But in her none leash arm, Mikasa was carrying some folded over letters. He'd recognise one. Mostly, there was a few strange symbols in the at the top. Mikasa's markings to show which letter had came with what gift. And a few other letters. She gets straight the point the moment she sees him.]
I can tell one is from you. But I don't know the others... Other than there's a lot of people whose name starts with 'm'...
no subject
He sure does recognise those, and he gives a bit of an apologetic grin when she hands him his own - while he had done it in this case with the surveys, it hadn't occurred to him to account for anyone who couldn't read in his Modranicht messages.]
Whoops, I probably should've thought of that before I wrote you a message. [He looks over the other two - he recognises the handwriting on both, because he also got gifts from both of these people.] This one that came with the gin bottle is from Lady Maria...and I'm not sure who this last one is because I think they did a mass gift drop, Yuki, Lio and I all got identical letters. My guess would be Marie Antoinette? Since it's got a crown on it, but she didn't sign her full name, so I'm not sure.
[He's only met Marie once, but he's also seen her network posts and she does strike him as the type to do something like this. And there was that cryptic "I'm doing it again this Modranicht" message she posted.]
no subject
But she snorts at his apology, waving a hand. It's fine. She'd worked part of it out. It was just his name but still...] Maria got me something..? [That got a blink. Hadn't been expecting that clearly.] Why gin? She's had to carry me before...
[Fae and their bad tolerance.] Though I don't know who this Marie is. I've not eaten the biscuits she gave. [Too shady, and it'd smelled of fae. Her instincts had told her not to accept that. That it was some kind of prank.]
no subject
I'm guessing she's started distilling her own, I got a bottle of it too. It does say on the note to be careful with it-- [He draws his finger under each word on the note as he reads the whole thing out.] "May your Modranicht be warm, and this help. I know Fae cannot hold their liquor as well as others, so the bottle is a bit smaller, but it should bring good cheer either way."
[So Maria's not unaware of the problem, at least. With that, he returns Maria's letter and moves on to Marie's.]
And I've only met Marie once, but she seems pretty chill. Helped me warn people about brainwashing lodestone things when we were fighting Drummond. The letter just says "Happy Modranicht! Let's have another great year here in Aefenglom!", so it's super generic for everyone. And I'm pretty sure I saw her mention "doing it again this year" on the Watches in the lead-up to Modranicht, so it sounds like she just tries to give stuff to everyone. For what it's worth, I ate the biscuits and I'm not dead.
[Momo is usually fairly suspect of offhanded generosity in general, but food he can be a little bit less cautious with.]
no subject
Oh, something ate them... Just not me. I left them when I didn't know who sent them. [Some animal had a nice snack.
But with the letters read she shrugs.] Thanks... I guess I have to be poked and prodded now... [Drily, one of those spiny arms giving a little stretch.]
no subject
[Momo is apparently absolutely on board with the idea of people distilling alcohol as a hobby, because even if you don't have much choice but to make it a business in his country, he's seen the kind of great stuff you can get out of smaller distilleries.
Before she moves on to poking and prodding, he wags a finger, because she forgot one.]
Hey, are you not counting mine? [He gives Marie's back and waves his own leftover one. He was leaving that until last.] And I do kind of need to read you mine because it had a warning on it..."Thought I'd get you something for your hobbies so you can take it a little easier. The needles are pure silver, so they should be okay for you but don't point them at any Turnskins, okay?"
[And then he hands her back the last letter.] So make sure you don't get anyone burnt by accident, you should know how much it sucks.
no subject
[Yeah. It'd burn. If she made contact, would a need like that even be able to get through shaggy fur? Maybe... but it'd be too easy to get raked by claws in return.]
no subject
I wasn't being that literal, but even handing them to a Turnskin would kinda suck for them, so I just wanted to make sure you knew. We don't need any more people getting burnt by certain metals than necessary!
[Momo's take is basically just minimising potential accidents - it wouldn't be a huge deal, but it's still unpleasant and he'd rather at least warn her it's a possibility.]
no subject
I guess. [A shrug. She really couldn't think of a reason she'd give her sewing and embroidery needles to someone though. Maybe if she had another housemate like Yachi and they turned into a Turnskin... But after losing three, Mikasa wasn't really looking for another.]
Would it really be accidental for a Turnskin to touch silver though? [She peered at him. Because iron, was really common. Silver less so, she'd seen it more here but she could count the number of times she'd seen it back home on one hand. Other than a Turnskin coming into contact with jewellery, she couldn't think of there being many ways for one to be burnt. It wasn't like the iron door handles and fences she'd come across.]
no subject
It could be? Besides stuff like jewellery, you can use silver for cutlery, to coat other metal stuff...heck, if they're just as allergic to chemical silver, then I think it's in photo printing stuff and sometimes wound dressings?
[He has definitely seen a couple of warnings printed on those here when he's been out with photographer coworkers or doing medical stuff in the Outer City, so even if it's not in the widest of use it's certainly around in other places.]
no subject
Oh, that's why photos are expensive on the mainland... [Not that she knew how they were made. That explained one thing though. But she shrugs.] You don't have to worry. None are going to touch the needles.
.......Unless they pretend to be an animal and sneak in my house. But that's their fault. [Because she wouldn't stab them. But if they touched her work...]
no subject
I feel like that's rare enough that you wouldn't have to worry about it...do Turnskins usually turn into something small enough to sneak into a house? I've never seen one change, so I guess I just kind of assumed they were more like werewolves.
[As in they turned into a big, gnarly version of whatever animal they were supposed to be instead of just a normal version of that animal. Even werewolves that turn into "normal" wolves are usually much bigger than normal wolves in his world's pop culture.]
no subject
And I've seen Mettaton turn into a rabbit. But he came up to my knee.
[A big bun. That could wack her in the face with his ears.]
no subject
Anyway, werewolves are normal-looking people who turn into monster wolves on the full moon. So pretty similar to Turnskins but specifically wolves. I'm surprised someone's dragon form is that small, though...aren't dragons meant to be huge and powerful? And I definitely rode a huge one during that mess in Dorchacht a few months ago.
[Berserker had offered him a lift and he had seen absolutely zero reason to not have the badass experience of riding a dragon into battle.]
no subject
I've seen Eren be the size of a horse, a house and a chicken... I think he can choose. Or it's connected to the moon.
[That makes about as much sense as everything else here.]
no subject
[Something Berserker's size would probably bring the roof down, and he figures that'd also be an issue if it was moon-related. Though he also doesn't know if the moon forces any further transformation on dragons like it does on merrow.]
The moon stuff can be kind of confusing, though. Yuki hates it because he gets his tentacles whether he's in the water or not, but I've seen other merrow walking around with legs those days sometimes too?
