a totally normal and innocuous wanted ad
Name: Myr Shivana | un: mshivana
Date: 9/15
Format: Voice
Evening, Mirrorbound. My name's Myr Shivana, for those who don't know my voice.
I've need of someone with experience mediating disputes--a village elder, a judge, even a senior ench--senior academic, if you've had particularly bad students. [There's a note of faint amusement in his voice, there.]
You'd be helping settle a matter that's caused no end of pain and distress to those involved. The reasons behind it are sensitive in nature, so discretion's a must.
I can compensate your time--with cunes or honey or service, whatever's preferred.
[...]
Also--unrelated to the other issue, if there's any Witches or Fae who specialize in illusions invoking taste instead of sight, I'd like to talk to you. Or cooks specializing in food for folk who can't taste much, I s'pose could work too. [He sounds cheerier about this one, at least.]

[Wait a darn minute.] Is your crime lord also a deer?
no subject
Oh. Guess you must know Louis, too. [Well that makes it easier.]
no subject
[Huh. Puts some things in another light.
Also, settles oddly in the pit of Myr's stomach, though he's going to ignore that feeling for now.]
If he's got methods for settling feuds that leave everyone involved alive...I'd hear them. I really do need a mediator for this without going to the Coven.

[Is it a warm fuzzy feeling? Like a lion cub?]
Maybe. I can ask him. Not sure if I could help, too, but I've helped with conflicts in the past.
[Helped solve her country's civil war among other minor events.]

[Or, uh, it sounds like he's added himself to the call. CONVENIENT.]
--and for any help you might be able to give. It's gotten well beyond my ability to solve.

[ Ah - here we are. ]
I guess it depends on the conflict, but so far so good.
shall we merge Fie into this one? CONFERENCE CALL
Did we take your name in vain? [Myr is, no doubt, glad to hear from Louis.] H'lo, Louis; it's been too long and I wish the circumstances were better.
I can give you--and your Bonded, if she'd like to hear--some of the details privately and you might be able to tell me if it's something you can solve.
time for a conference call!

launches the Zoom meeting, accidentally mutes all participants. .... also, private LOL;
[He takes an audible breath to steady himself.]
This concerns my Bonded, Linden Tailor. Last autumn, he attempted to rescue another Mirrorbound--Niles--from a Fae illusion designed to terrorize him. Niles fought with Linden during the attempt; Linden lost his patience and paralyzed Niles, subjecting him to the worst of the illusion for as long as it took Linden to unravel it. He made it very clear he was doing it to punish and humiliate Niles for Niles' "misbehavior".
[His tone has gone detached and clinical as he narrates.]
Niles wanted revenge, and wanted to deny Linden his magic or any ability to use what he'd learned from the illusion against Niles. Niles stalked Linden for the better part of six months to terrorize him before kidnapping him, cutting off all of his fingers, and mutilating his tongue.
Niles then faked his own death, but Linden quickly ferreted him out and has been tormenting him with magic since. I learned about that part less than two weeks ago, else I'd have stopped it before it got to this state. If I hadn't learned of it, it would have gone on until one or both of them was dead.
I've gotten Linden to stand down on my word that we'll find a just resolution to this. They're both guilty in this, and both owe restitution to the other.
And--needless to say, I don't trust the Coven to fix this one. Nor did, or does, Niles.

Besides yikes. ... Louis?]

[ He sounds concerned. ]
If I give you an address, do you think you can get them all to meet us there? I think that might be the best place to start. Because as helpful as this was, it would be good to hear from them.

Myr breathes out a silent prayer of gratitude when Louis responds. ]
I'll make it work. [He's got to.] When do you want them there by?
[Whenever it is, wherever it is, he'll make it work.]

I can do that any time in the next two weeks.
Is a day of warning enough before we show up?

Maker bless you for doing this, Louis. I--it means a great deal to me.
[He has been under so much stress.]
