Name: Howl (un: galdorleod)
Date: Septeril 9
Format: Video
[ The young man in the video has smooth skin, softly flushed cheeks, marble-like blue eyes and soft-looking hair. He sits in a plush armchair with his hands tucked inside his coat, speaking pleasantly and calmly in a Welsh accent. ]
Good afternoon, fellow Mirrorbound. For many of you, this message is likely your first and only acquaintance with me, so please, allow me to introduce myself.
I am Howl, a renowned wizard in my homeland of Ingary, the sole apprentice to the Royal Sorceress Madame Suliman, owner of three shopfronts across His Majesty's Kingdom, and a rather cranky prat when I first got here, I must admit. [ His vague calm smile widens into something more overt. ] But, I have been in Aefenglom for over two months now, and I like to think I'm making excellent progress in regaining my trade.
With that out of the way -
[ Howl pulls his right hand from his coat, holding an off-white envelope between his fingers. ]
I'd like to open a discussion on these letters - invitations to a celebration marking the Dorchacht rebellion, beginning on the nineteenth.
I was not even here at the time, so I'm puzzled as to why my presence is wanted. And while I know some general information about the conflict and what prompted it, I do not yet know enough to be comfortable celebrating it.
I wonder if anyone else received an invitation, as I assume I cannot possibly be the only one. And I ask, respectfully, if any Mirrorbound reading this were here one year ago when this rebellion took place, who may be able to enlighten me on the details. Do we know of any reason for all Mirrorbound to have been invited, even those who have arrived more recently?

Zixuan! Good to see you again! I'll share what I learn about the Dorchacht revolution with you, if you like.
[ Is that a nest behind him? Between that and the feathers, he must be a Harpy. A small part of Howl is jealous. ]
You're looking dashing since the last time we spoke. How are you and your wife?

[ It would only behoove them to help each other, them both being so new to this place.
He huffs slightly at the compliment, feeling in no way shape or form dashing. ]
It is kind of you to say so. I feel rather horrendous, all told. But my family and I are doing well. Thank you for asking.

[ Howl motions to the wooden and cloth-like object behind Zixuan in the frame. ] ...That's not a nest, is it?
no subject
He spares an embarrassed glance over his shoulder at what is very clearly a large ramshackle nest. ]
It is... a collection... of items. [ Oh, who is he kidding? He sighs. ] Yes. Yes, I'm a harpy, and yes, I've built a nest. My family all laughs about it behind my back and they think I don't notice, but...
[ He hates that he's got this compulsion, but building the nest is the one thing in this world that makes sense to him. ]
I don't know how to explain it, but it... brings me comfort.

It doesn't mean what I think it might, does it? Birds nests... well, you know what they're typically for.
no subject
Excuse me?! What-- What are you--? I don't...
[ He does his best to regain his composure. It wouldn't do for the heir to the Lanling Jin clan to be seen as a blubbering idiot for all to see. ]
Surely you know enough about animal anatomy to know that the male birds are not the ones who... who use nests in such a way.
no subject
[ The sparkle returns to his smile. ] You're not building it for her to use, are you?
no subject
But he frowns, ridding his head of that thought. ]
Not like that. We already have one son here to deal with. It wouldn't be right to bring others into this world now.

[ Said matter of factly, but with some sadness laced within it. He would have liked to have more children with A-Li, but... No use dwelling on that now. He's happy just to have A-Ling. ]
Yes, Jin Ling, my son. He is far more grown than he was when I left my world, as he comes from some fifteen years into my world's future.
