As a Witch, I find myself requiring a 'Bond'.
[Mogget has no desire to experiment with pushing the boundaries of his ability to contain magic in this place, and feels it would be far more sensible to secure an immediate outlet. Working these communication devices with paws is an effort in itself, but he's managed to set it mostly upright and facing him.
Addressing the other Mirrorbound is a small white cat with green eyes.]
If you believe you would have something to offer in that regard, I invite you to put it forward.

If you believe you would have something to offer in that regard, I invite you to put it forward.

And I haven't spoken to one of you before. It isn't always that easy to tell, when everyone is at different stages of transformation.

[This is said with a light shrug. Near is too testy right now, so he avoids arguing.]
no subject
[If Mogget were human-shaped, one might assume he'd currently be lazily reclining with his head propped up on his hand. He observes Near silently for a few moments, then blinks slowly.]
I believe our purpose here was to test your prey drive. So, shall we?
no subject
Near nods, already feeling his heart beat more frantically in anticipation. He hates it.]
I suppose we should.

[Mogget stands up and moves to a spot on the wall where he can jump down with ample space to start running. He did promise, so to speak, and doesn't fancy being eaten by a large snake with an overactive prey drive.
The cat hops down, landing silently, and looks over at Near. The tip of his tail flicks.]

He stays where he is, but he can feel his little serpent heart pounding in his chest far too loudly.
Not a prey animal, his mind tells him. That's the only thing that keeps him from chasing the cat immediately, even though he desperately wants to just because it's alive and moving.]
Keep going. [He's unable to keep the tremor out of his voice.]
no subject
Does it help if I talk?
[He asks this casually. Generally speaking, animals that one would want to eat would not be able to politely request that you refrain from such things. The cat takes a few steps forwards, his pads coming down soundlessly on the ground.]
Do tell me if it does.
no subject
But it's clear from his eyes that he wants to.]
It helps.
[Does it? It gives him a more clear idea of the cat's position, for sure.]
no subject
[He recognises that predatory look in Near's eyes, but he will leave it to him to call off this little 'experiment'. Mogget continues his steady approach.]
I don't often put myself in these kinds of positions.

[Near keeps his eyes trained on him. As a naga he couldn't blink even if he wanted to, which would probably make his gaze uncomfortable for most purely based on that. That and his typical deadpan expression makes it harder to tell what he might be thinking.
Though as the cat gets closer, his hands become visibly more restless.]
...Stop. [He finally calls a halt to his movements.]
no subject
But Near says 'stop', and he stops, one paw just shy of touching the ground.]
Yes?
no subject
[Near turns his eyes away from the cat, focusing on anything else.]
If we bonded it might be fine, but - right now it's not. And I would need time with you before I could promise anything. I can't bond with a stranger. Even like this.
[He sighs.]
I will... look into a temporary bond with someone. To tide me over until I can find a permanent one. Perhaps after that we can talk again.
no subject
[He has no stake in this, really. Others had made offers as well. His curiosity about the situation has been more than sated in his observations of Near's reactions to him.
Mogget stays where he is, neither approaching nor making any movement to retreat. His ears are turned slightly back, but he shows little tension in his body otherwise.]
I suggest you leave first. I have no intentions of turning my back on you.

It had been a poor idea in the first place, bonding with a small animal in this mindset - predator or not. Even if he felt fine, there was too much of a risk for the type of monster he was. This place could throw something at them they didn't expect and put the smaller creature in danger regardless.
No, this is for the best. He'll find someone else. Most likely, he'll have to swallow his pride and contact L.]
