- The face that comes over the video might be familiar to some: delicate-featured, red-haired, bearing the un-hidden features of a jewel-red dragonfly Fae. Sowilo is known to be brusque and haughty, but today he only looks serious, occasionally glancing off-screen, where the sounds of another couple of people in the office can be heard.
“Two Wilders came back from the Northern Outpost this morning. Apparently a dozen of them went missing a handful of days ago and the search party has only turned up these two. Overcurious meatheads that they are, they found trouble on a trip out. They are not seriously injured-” He holds a hand up. “-but they have the strangest story.”
“While exploring after a rockslide they came upon a tunnel, and like the geniuses they are, decided to follow it down. Very far down, to caverns where they were ambushed and captured handily.” There is a quiet protest in the background, and murmuring, but Sowilo pays it no mind. “The two who returned were purposefully released, and they’ve described to Theodore an underground city full of actual, living people. What in the world do you all know about this? Their leader sent a message that she will release the other ten Wilders safely if “only the travelers who have laid eyes upon her fair city before” accept her cordial invitation to her realm. Doesn’t take a scholar to assume she’s talking about you Mirrorbound. You have a way of attracting trouble, don’t you?”
“I’m sure you understand why this is a… delicate situation for the Coven, and for Aefenglom. We have no records of any city existing underground - we know absolutely nothing about these people, what they want, or what they are capable of. The message was very clear that representatives from the Coven or Aefenglom were not welcomed, so our hands are a bit tied. Their leader wishes to speak with some of you directly, even.” Glittering red eyes narrow.
“We leave on the 16th from the North Gate and will use the teleporter to the Northern Outpost. From there, Theodore and I will accompany you as far as we can, but I imagine it won’t be far at all.” There is a moment of hesitation here from the stuck-up Fae, and he looks a bit like he bit into a lemon. “I suppose we are relying on you all. Please know that this is an unprecedented situation and could turn dangerous for all of us. Not to mention, if they decide they don’t like us, we’ll likely have to abandon the Northern Outpost and all the progress made up there…
I suppose decide among yourselves what you’re willing to do. We will not force anyone's cooperation.”
This is the initial kick-off post for What Lies Beneath! Feel free to use this post to let characters discuss and react with each other as you want over the network or in-person. If you need an NPC reply, please say so in your comment header! NPC replies will come from the journal

Not exactly the message you want from visitors huh
If those are the only times you've done it I guess that at least makes sense
I'm honestly kind of surprised more people didn't try to go the True Fae in that dream but maybe I was just there at the wrong time
[Momo's quite patient with bad attitudes, but even he had to just straight-up leave the camp and go to the human one to stop himself doing something reckless.]

[ that's just how faefolk are. if he were less dragon, eren would be mildly (only mildly) concerned with the second line, with the lack of information pardoning him from judgment and how he'd probably never consume someone for being an asshole. for him, now, it, fortunately (or unfortunately) doesn't matter. it's rare to see morality that isn't skewered in the first place. ]
They were always difficult to get something out of, but I've got a few things, mostly from past dreams.
no subject
They did seem like the talking in circles type
I chatted to a few of them but that was before I knew it was more than a dream, so I wasn't angling for information
I'm kinda curious to hear what you found out about them since I remember people were talking after that dream happened about how it was the first proper contact with true fae
no subject
Which dream? The past? [ to correct him: ] There’ve been more than that.
no subject
I guess the people I talked about it with didn't know they came up in others
I've only been here for that one and the underground one so I don't know a lot about any of the others

The first dream we had took place in their courts. Seely and Unseely— In the heart of the Wilde in a place called Dewaint Forest. It's been lost in history until recently when we starting digging.
[ there's a lot of information— so he'll let it drip and leave room for questions where they need be. ]
no subject
How far along are you in digging it up? I guess the ones talking about the recent dream being first contact must not have been here long enough
[Because if it was the literal first dream they had then the recent one was outclassed by a good almost year.]

[If parts of the Wilde can rain poison in certain seasons and be passable in others, he feels he might as well make sure.]
If that was the very first dream, though, what ended up following on from that?
no subject
[ one moment, please! ]
1st. Dewaint Forest 🧚
2nd. Autumn Wilde
3rd. Aefenglom in ruins
4th. Burning Wilde
5th. The future Wilde 🧚
6th. The primal Wilde 🧚
7th. The Underground

Huh
So they're there again in the future Wilde...?
Were that and the Aefenglom in ruins one the same future or was it not clear
[He would not be shocked if the return of the true fae and destruction of Aefenglom were related, but he's not very familiar with how theoretical dream futures work.]
no subject
Or it could be completely unrelated.
no subject
It wouldn't surprise me but it seems too early to say for sure
Did they actually say what specifically happened to the city or was it just vague bad things

Guess even magical dreams aren't very straightforward
Though I guess divination is probably always like that
Was the burning wilde one something from the present or future
no subject
[ . . . first-hand experience. there's a twenty-minute pause in between this next answer and the last— he had to look through his notes. ]
Past. There was a place in it that you can find on the Wilder's training grounds, a field of frozen dryads. That was from a Cywld outbreak containment about two hundred years ago.
no subject
Two hundred years ago, though...
I wonder how long they've mostly just had fire for dealing with that
The leyline purging thing seems to be a recent development
[He hasn't been here that long, but he got the impression from that expedition for it the month he arrived that it was a new thing.]
no subject
Sometimes a leyline is too corrupt to purge the way they did in the Wilde months ago. Fire is still the most effective way from what I've read.
no subject
Though does fire actually do much about corrupted leylines
I understand burning infected areas of forest but the leyline stuff seems to corrupt the land itself
no subject
Maybe you can learn more about it if you ask one of the Coven scholars. I'm going off on information I heard from them months ago.
no subject
In any case, thanks for all the information
I've been picking your brain for a bit but I think that's me out of immediate questions at least
